Case Study: Buzzard Platform Optimization
Vishwas Shinde Elixir MD was assigned to commission and startup the AGR and Gas Plant of Buzzard platform.
The platform was tripping frequently due to foaming in the AGR absorber even though application of antifoam at frequent intervals. Being Amine Expert he reviewed the system configuration and operating parameters at AGR unit.
The system was simulated it was noticed that there is retrograde condensation taking place in AGR absorber due to lack of sufficient superheat. He advised using compressor discharge cooler bypass to get some superheat (approx. 3-4 deg C) at absorber inlet.
This helped to avoid hydrocarbon condensation in absorber and hence stopped the foaming problem in absorber and then onwards no tripping of plant with no flaring helped the operation team to achieve design capacity.
